Mechanic in overalls working in the engine bay of a car

Auto Repair in Flagstaff, AZ

Diagnosis first, then an honest answer about what your car or truck actually needs. Just off I-40 at the Winona exit.

Auto repair

We find the real problem before we fix anything.

It's hard to find a mechanic you trust, especially far from home with a noise you've never heard. One customer's brother, a mechanic in Missouri, said we could easily have taken advantage of that customer and didn't. That's the whole idea of this shop.

Bring it to S & J Auto and we start with diagnosis. We look at what is actually going on, explain it in plain English, and tell you what it needs now and what can wait. You decide what gets done.

If the honest answer is that it isn't worth fixing, we'll say that too. When a family's Camry hit a big piece of debris heading east on the 40, Rick helped them inspect the damage, gave straight advice about the undercarriage, and kept his word on storing the car for them for two weeks.

Mountain driving

Mountain miles add up.

Vehicles up here work harder than they look. Cold starts below freezing, long climbs on I-17 and I-40, cinder dust, potholes after the thaw and a lot of highway miles between towns. That shows up as suspension wear, cooling trouble and brakes that get used hard on the grades.

We see locals from Doney Park, Timberline-Fernwood and town, plus travelers who pulled off the interstate at Winona because something didn't sound right. Everyone gets the same straight answer.
