Tires & Flat Repair in Flagstaff, AZ

New tires, flat fixes and blown-tire swaps at our shop just off I-40 at Winona. Call ahead with your tire size and we'll tell you straight what we can do.

Tire service

Get back on the road on good rubber.

A tire problem on the way through Flagstaff tends to show up at the worst time: a sidewall that lets go on the interstate, a slow leak that is flat by morning, or tread that was fine in August and isn't in the first snow. S & J Auto is set up for exactly that, on Townsend-Winona Road a few minutes off I-40 at the Winona exit, so you don't have to fight across town on a bad tire.

Call (928) 666-0145 with the size off the sidewall (it looks like 225/65R17) and what happened. We'll tell you what we can do and how soon. Then bring it in, and we'll look at the tire, the wheel and anything else a blowout may have damaged.

That last part matters. A tire that came apart at highway speed can take a fender liner, a brake line or a sensor with it. We check before we send you back out.

Tires at altitude

Why Flagstaff tires wear differently.

Flagstaff sits at nearly 7,000 feet and gets real winter. Snow, ice and plowed cinders cover the roads for months, then spring brings freeze-thaw potholes. Out in Doney Park and Timberline-Fernwood plenty of people drive cinder and dirt roads every day, which chews at tread and sidewalls.

On I-40, debris is a fact of life. One reviewer's family hit something big in the road heading east and ended up at our shop. So when we look at a tire, we look at tread depth for snow and wet pavement, the sidewalls for cuts and bulges, the pressure, and the spare you'll want on the shoulder.

“Our Motorhome had a tire blow out right before the exit. We hobbled into this shop. The mechanic changed our tire and had us out of there within an hour!! Very helpful and friendly.”

Tires questions

Good to know.

Can you fix my flat, or do I need a new tire?

It depends where the damage is. Punctures in the tread can often be repaired; damage in the sidewall, or a tire that was driven flat, usually can't. We'll show you what we see and tell you which it is.

Do you work on motorhome tires?

Yes. A reviewer's motorhome blew a tire right before the exit; we changed it and had them back on the road within an hour. Call first with the tire size so we know what you need.

How do I find my tire size?

It's printed on the sidewall, a string like 225/65R17. A photo of it texted to (928) 666-0145 works too.

Do I need an appointment?

Call ahead at (928) 666-0145. If you're broken down, say so, and we'll tell you how quickly we can get to it.
